Hello everyone! Greetings from Central PA. where springtime brings Grange, Curve Baseball, Grange, Jaffa Circus, and more Grange.
What a great Regional Meeting we had at Scotch Valley Grange hall, following a spaghetti supper! For those who just came for the dinner, they were met at the door by Carl Meiss and given a Grange pamphlet to read. No one, but no one, escapes "That Man," who extends the long arm of the Grange wherever he goes.

Discussions by committees were a big part of the evening. Most all of the committees reported.

Our Family Activities had items to show, including our new project, "The Dignity Shirt." Patterns were available for our visitors. Lap robes were available to be taken by ladies if needed for their counties. I know they were all working hard on their projects.

Baby blankets are to be 40" X 40" minimum, made from new, washable fabric. A great size is 42" X 48". "Baby blankets," or "ABC Quilts," will be sent to Family Festival this year. Each Grange in our region is going to try to send 10. I hope Ginny is inundated as she was with the "Quilts for the Brave."
We took baby quilts, hospital dolls, youth Barbara Bestwick #1506 quilts and toys to a hospital before Easter. Everyone was so happy to get them. From the folks who volunteer from Granges to the volunteers who work at the hospital, there certainly is a bonding of caring and sharing.

As Ginny stated in our April Advocate - elections are coming up and we need to get Family Activities Chairpersons names into the State Office so we are all able to cooperate together to contribute to that continued stream of "Community Caring" that flows so freely from our Granges.

The ripples in our "Stream of Caring," the blankets, lap robes, dignity shirts and toys show that Grangers do care.

I heard one lady in our region say "Our group is getting smaller. I'm afraid we won't reach our goal" (Of what we want to do). Plan to come to Family Festival and be revitalized and encourage your friends and Grange friends to come along.

Each year it has been great to go to Family Festival to meet those you haven't seen for a while, do crafts, go on a hike, play horseshoes, ride a bike, learn to square dance, eat (Oh yes, there is a lot of eating going on!), or just sit back and enjoy the day.

This year we will be treated to Civil War re-enactors at the beautiful Centre County Grange Fairgrounds. Mark your calendars for July 17th - 20th and come for the fun. Civil War decorations for campers and tents will be judged. Costumes will also be judged on Friday night. Take a break from your every day and come along!!

Lee Pressler is getting his "Covered Wagon" ready to transport us to our picnic and campfire Friday evening. We have been rained on a few times, but that has never dampened the enthusiasm!

We would like everyone to remember Yvonne, Vincent and Ronald Conrad in their prayers. They lost their home and most of their household belongings to a fire.

Esther Krepps, long-time Granger from Shirleysburg Grange #0119 in Huntingdon County, used this raisin-filled cookie recipe to feed us for years. Enjoy!!

1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup Crisco
1/2 cup sour milk
1 egg
3 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
2 1/4 cups flour
Filling:
1 cup raisins
1 cup sugar
2 cups water

Boil filling ingredients and thicken a little. Mix together the sugars, shortening and egg. Beat well. Add milk alternately with sifted dry ingredients. Roll out dough. Cut with round cookie cutter. Place spoonful of filling on one cookie, then top with another cookie. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

Our National Master, Edward Luttrell visited with us at our Regional Meeting, along with Master Betsy. Ed gave us a lot of information and answered many questions.

Take a break and attend our Fabulous Fifth Family Festival July 17th - 20th.

BREAST CANCER PROJECT/QUILT RAFFLE
As you read in The Advocate last month, the FA Committee is holding a raffle for a state-wide project to benefit the Breast Cancer Coalition of Pennsylvania. This organization assists those in Pennsylvania that cannot afford the cost of cancer treatments. Along with the raffle of the Rose of Sharon Quilt, we are blessed to have a Longaberger Horizon of Hope Basket to raffle off as well. The pink tickets we are selling for this are marked for Breast Cancer, so be sure that you help people to understand which ticket they are purchasing. The money raised from the breast cancer pink tickets will be given to the state coalition. We also need you to sell the raffle tickets we sell each year to cover the cost of all the contests we hold. We have 27 classes and most of them have 2 or 3 categories, which adds up to a large amount of money for the prizes on the state level. The raffles will both be drawn at the annual State Session in Lancaster in October.

So, as you see there are going to be many opportunities for you to win a prize or a quilt. We hope that you will continue to sell both kinds of tickets as well as make us the Dignity Shirts for our Breast Cancer project. Our goal for the shirts is 200 or more. These shirts are to be brought to the State Session in October. Please help us out and help a cancer patient keep her dignity while going through treatments.

We also hope that you are making the ABC quilts for the children. Just remember that they are to be brought to the annual Family Festival in July. Our goal for this project is 200 quilts. Please be a part of this project and help put a smile on a child's face.
