We have a
re-organized Junior Grange in Beaver County.
Fairview Grange has re-organized its Juniors and now
has over 20 members with 12 of those planning to
attend Beaver County’s Junior Camp. I hope some will
be coming to State Junior Camp. Chuck Campbell,
Master of Fairview Grange #1351, has been doing the
re-organizing work.

Hello fellow Grangers,
With spring already here and summer just
around the corner, there are many new beginnings and fun-filled
adventures coming up for the Juniors and the family to attend.
The first thing I would like to mention
is State Junior Grange Camp. Junior Camp is held at Camp Sylvan Hills in
Centre County beginning on Sunday, June 29 and ending on Saturday, July
5. There are many cool events planned this year such as a baseball game,
campfire night, a Friday night dance and swimming! Also to go along with
the camp theme which is, “A Sporting Good Time,” we will be playing
kickball, volleyball, 4-square and even toilet paper football. If you
would like to come to Junior Camp and you're between the ages of 8 and
14, you can come and join the rest of the campers and have a lot of fun.
If you are 15 and older you can come and be a helper (15-17) or a
counselor (18 and over). This experience will be the best time of your
life but the registrations were due June 1st. You can still register,
but it will cost you an additional $25.00.
Also planned for the summer is the Family
Festival held on Thursday, July 17 to Sunday, July 20. The theme for
this year's Festival is “Civil War” so when you come you get to see a
reenactment of the civil war. You also get to go on tours, have great
entertainment, and eat amazing food! Take this opportunity to spend time
with your family...it’s a lot of fun and you’ll never regret it!

Dear Juniors,
I am writing this to you from our
school’s WPIAL track meet finals. Summer is a great time to get involved
in your school or community’s sports or outside activities. I know that
I enjoy long and triple jumping in track, jumping on my trampoline, and
walking my dog outdoors.
Just remember to use caution when you are
outside. Always remember to use sunscreen, even if it’s cloudy. Never
cross the street unless you are accompanied by an adult. Don’t talk to
anyone you don’t know. Most importantly, if anything happens to you
during a sport or just outside, tell someone older than you what has
happened.
Not only is summer about sports and
having a fun time outside, but summer is about Junior Grange Camp. This
year's theme is, “A Sporting Good Time.” Each day of the week the camp
will be celebrating our love for sports. Some of the things we will be
doing during the week include swimming at a local pool, attending the
Penn State Spikes Game, not to mention the annual coronation of the
Prince and Princess.
Remember, just because you are not
“sporty” enough doesn’t mean you can’t do the other fun things the
committee has planned! :-) [Braden typed this on his cell phone]
This year has been fun-filled and
exciting for me. One of the favorite things I did this year was the
Grange’s annual Family Festival. The Youth activities were very
entertaining, and I would like to thank the current youth ambassadors
Gail and Adam for memories that will last a lifetime.
Good luck to the Royalty Court and the new Royalty! See you at camp!
Signed, your favorite Prince,
Braden C. Gourley
We, the PA State Grange Junior Grange
Committee, thank all the Subordinate and Pomona Granges that have been
so generous over the years in supporting the Junior Grange. Even with
the cost of everything rising you continue to support the Juniors.
Thank you to the following Granges that
have donated since the last Advocate: Honeybrook, Roseville, Scrubgrass,
Penns Valley, Wesley, Brandywine, Valley, Kingwood, Lawrence Pomona,
Harmony, Macungie, Trexelertown, South Auburn, Beech Grove, Sinking
Valley, Shannondale, Pleasant Valley, Mahoning Valley, Chester-Delaware
Pomona, Beaver Pomona, Marshallton, Erie Pomona, Conneaut, Perry Valley,
Mt. Nebo and Mahoning.
A special thank you to our most generous
donors: Kutztown, Dubois, Shavers Creek, Lehigh-Northampton Pomona and
Edinboro Granges.
With camp coming in July the Juniors are actively preparing for some
community service projects. We will be collecting books from the camp
attendees to support Read Across America. Also, the Juniors have been
asked to make teddy bears for an ambulance service in Allegheny County.
Along with these activities the Juniors will be taught the Masters of
Disaster program presented by the American Red Cross.
Hannah Pratt of Venango County is
currently one of the Outstanding Teens for Miss America in PA. Her
platform is “Student Cross.” Hannah has taught the Masters of Disaster
program to over 650 students already and is actively involved in getting
students to volunteer for the American Red Cross. At this point she has
involved about 1,000 students Lavetta Tice #325 in various forms.
(Hannah will be competing for the State Title to represent PA at the
National competition in July.) Also at camp, we will be going bowling in
memory of Jon Sattazahn and attending the State College Spikes game on
July 3. The Junior Prince and Princess will be throwing out the first
pitch and Hannah Pratt will sing the National Anthem. Of course, the
week will culminate with the crowning of a new Junior Prince and
Princess.
We are hoping that our camp numbers will
continue to grow again this year. If you can come for a day please feel
free to join us.
Family Festival will also be a wonderful
time to come together as a family unit. Activities are planned for all
ages and remember to bring your bike. The Bike-a-thon will benefit the
Jonathan Sattazahn Fund to help support Youth and Junior campers. Get a
printable enrollment form HERE.
It will be a busy summer and we hope to
see you at one of these events.
