Coloring Contest Celebrates Dairy Month

The Russellville Grange and the Oxford Public Library invite the community to participate in a coloring contest to celebrate June as Dairy Month. The contest will begin on Wednesday, May 14, and entries must be submitted by Wednesday, June 11. Contest entries will be available at the Oxford Public Library, 48 South Second Street, Oxford, Pa., during normal business hours. Completed entries should be returned to the library or any Grange member.

Children will compete in two age categories: ages zero to six and ages seven to twelve. Each child who submits a completed entry to the library will receive a Dairy Month gift, courtesy of the Mid-Atlantic Milk Marketing Association.

Winners will be selected after June 11 and asked to attend the Russellville Grange’s annual Dairy Supper to receive their prizes from the Chester County Dairy Princess. The Dairy Supper is open to the public and will begin at 6:30 p.m. on June 19 at the Russellville Grange Hall, located on the corner of Route 896 and Old Limestone Road in Upper Oxford Township.

Children can learn more about Dairy Month at a special story time to be held on May 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oxford Public Library.

“The coloring contest provides a fun way for children to learn about dairy farming, which continues to be a strong industry in Chester County,” said Sara Beth Reyburn, chair of the Grange’s Youth Committee. “Last year’s coloring contest turned out to be a really nice community event and we hope that will be the case this year.”

“Last year the children did a great job on their entry pages,” said Colleen Mahaney, the Children’s Services Specialist at the Oxford Public Library. “They were very enthusiastic about participating.”

The Grange is a family fraternal organization that focuses on agriculture, rural communities, and public service. The Russellville Grange meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Russellville Grange Hall. The public is invited to attend.
